Gracie / Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Hi I'm Keith Owen . I am a Black Belt under 7th Degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor Professor Pedro Sauer (www.pedrosauer.com)
For those of you who don't know what Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Gracie Jiu-Jitsu) is, it's a ground fighting martial art developed by Helio and Carlos Gracie in Brazil in 1925. Helio’s son Rorion (pronounced Horion) invented the Ultimate Fighting Championship in the early 1990’s. Its techniques focus mainly on what to do when you and a larger stronger opponent go to the ground in a street fight. It relies on the use of leverage over sheer strength and is designed for smaller people to defeat larger opponents. It is one of the most challenging styles of martial arts to receive a black belt in because of its focus on technical detail. I have been a student of Professor Sauer’s for the past 14 years.
There are two kinds of Jiu-Jitsu practiced at our school. They are Gi (uniform) and no-Gi (no uniform) combat grappling. While we do practice no Gi grappling quite a bit, we do the majority of classes using the Gi because of the greater amount of techniques that can be applied and used. It slows the action down and allows the student to gain a better understanding of the moves.
We do not have a no-holds barred fighting program. We do not train UFC fighters for the ring. Our students are regular people who want to be challenged, be technical and learn to defend themselves on the ground. We practice in a very safe , controlled environment where injury is kept to a minimum. We realize that most people have jobs and don't need a black eye or stitches when going to work.

Our Jiu-Jitsu classes can be very challenging for most people. It is a class that requires you to grapple with other people in a very close confined space. Some people might not be comfortable with this. SuperKicks also offers other stand-up Martial Arts Programs as well.
For those that are interested in grappling be prepared for one of the BEST self defense systems in the world and a totally fun, energetic and exciting time. Women are welcome to join and typically make the best students.
